Published studies describe the complex in several research contexts, including collagen synthesis, antioxidant behaviour, and wound repair models. Much of this work is conducted in cultured cells or in small animal systems, and the findings are frequently cited in reviews of copper peptides. Direct clinical evidence in humans is comparatively limited, and reported outcomes vary with formulation and study design. Whether free chain or metal-bound form was used is not always stated, a point that complicates comparison between reports.
GHK-Cu is a coordination complex formed between the peptide glycyl-L-histidyl-L-lysine and a copper(II) ion. The unbound chain, abbreviated GHK, consists of three amino acids and occurs naturally in human plasma, saliva, and urine. Binding of the metal is mediated mainly by the imidazole nitrogen of the histidine residue together with backbone amides, producing a stable chelate. Ingredient nomenclature often lists the same substance as copper tripeptide-1. Its charge and solubility behaviour differ from those of the metal-free chain.
The copper-binding activity of this sequence was described in the 1970s during studies of liver tissue and plasma factors. Early work identified the peptide as a component that influenced copper uptake by cells and that appeared in wound fluid. Later investigations examined its presence across species, reporting the same chain in human and animal samples. A decline in measured concentration with age became a recurring observation, although the underlying causes remain incompletely characterised.
Purity assessment typically involves high-performance liquid chromatography for the peptide and atomic spectroscopy for copper content. The ratio of copper to peptide is a key quality parameter; a value near one indicates proper stoichiometry. Impurities can include free peptide, copper salts, and truncated sequences from synthesis. Because the complex is dynamic, sample preparation and mobile-phase conditions can shift the observed species. Reported purity values therefore depend on the analytical method and should be interpreted with that context.
Characterizing GHK-Cu requires methods that distinguish the intact complex from free peptide and unbound copper. UV-visible absorption around 600 nm provides a rapid check for copper coordination, while circular dichroism reports on peptide secondary structure. Mass spectrometry confirms the peptide mass and can detect copper adducts under carefully controlled conditions. Electron paramagnetic resonance is particularly informative for Cu(II) because it reveals the ligand field symmetry. No single technique fully defines the complex, so laboratories combine orthogonal methods.

Identity and purity are established with a combination of chromatographic and spectroscopic techniques. Reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography separates the intact complex from peptide fragments and free copper, and the elution profile yields a purity estimate. Mass spectrometry gives the mass of the intact species and exposes degradation products. Ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy displays a broad absorption band in the visible region that is characteristic of the copper center. Nuclear magnetic resonance is less informative here, because the paramagnetic metal broadens signals and complicates spectral interpretation.
Copper content is measured separately, since a peptide assay alone does not report the metal-to-peptide ratio. Elemental techniques such as inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy quantify copper after acid digestion of the sample. The result is compared with the theoretical value for a one-to-one complex, and a shortfall indicates free peptide or partial dissociation. Suppliers differ in how they state purity, as some quote peptide content and others quote the whole complex. A defined stoichiometry therefore requires both a peptide assay and a copper assay.
Solid GHK-Cu is usually supplied as a lyophilized powder and is kept cold and dry. Moisture, light, and repeated temperature cycling shorten its useful life in the laboratory. In aqueous solution the complex undergoes slow hydrolysis of the peptide backbone and gradual loss of coordinated copper. Buffers containing strong chelators, such as EDTA, compete for the metal and strip it from the peptide. Working solutions are therefore prepared shortly before use, and leftover liquid is not returned to the stock container.
The compound entered scientific literature in the 1970s, when plasma factors with copper-binding activity were isolated and characterized. Later work expanded into wound healing, skin biology, and cosmetic formulation, where copper tripeptide-1 became a recognized ingredient name. Most published studies remain preclinical or small-scale, and findings are often reported in specialized dermatology or peptide journals. Regulatory treatment varies: some jurisdictions allow it as a cosmetic ingredient, while research-grade material is sold for laboratory use. Questions about optimal delivery, target tissues, and long-term effects continue to be investigated rather than settled.
GHK-Cu is a coordination complex formed between the tripeptide glycyl-L-histidyl-L-lysine and a copper(II) ion. The peptide sequence is often abbreviated Gly-His-Lys, and the copper is bound through the histidine imidazole nitrogen and adjacent peptide nitrogens. The complex is frequently described as a 1:1 peptide-to-copper species. It occurs naturally in human plasma, saliva, and urine at low concentrations. Its endogenous levels have been reported to decline with age, although the precise physiological role of that change remains an open question.
In 2023, the US State Department announced plans to launch a "global coalition to address synthetic drug threats", with more than 80 countries expected to join. That April, Anne Milgram, head of the DEA since 2021, stated to Congress that two Mexican drug cartels posed "the greatest criminal threat the United States has ever faced." Supporting a DEA budget request of $3.7 billion for 2024, Milgram cited fentanyl in the "most devastating drug crisis in our nation's history." In October 2023, OFAC sanctioned a China-based network of fentanyl manufacturers and distributors. The drug is usually manufactured in China, then shipped to Mexico, where it is processed and packaged, which is then smuggled into the US by Mexican drug cartels. In January 2024, the DEA confirmed that it was reviewing the classification of cannabis as a Schedule I narcotic. Days later, documents were released from the Department of Health and Human Services stating that cannabis has "a currently accepted medical use" in the US and a "potential for abuse less than the drugs or other substances in Schedules I and II." On 30 April, indicating a DEA decision, the Justice Department announced, "Today, the Attorney General circulated a proposal to reclassify marijuana from Schedule I to Schedule III. Once published by the Federal Register, it will initiate a formal rulemaking process as prescribed by Congress in the Controlled Substances Act." Schedule III drugs, considered to have moderate to low potential for dependence, include ketamine, anabolic steroids, testosterone, and Tylenol with codeine.
=== Heterogeneous catalysis === Operando spectroscopy is widely applicable to heterogeneous catalysis, which is largely used in industrial chemistry. An example of operando methodology to monitor heterogeneous catalysis is the dehydrogenation of propane with molybdenum catalysts commonly used in industrial petroleum. Mo/SiO2 and Mo/Al2O2 were studied with an operando setup involving EPR/UV-Vis, NMR/UV-Vis, and Raman. The study examined the solid molybdenum catalyst in real time. It was determined that the molybdenum catalyst exhibited propane dehydrogenation activity, but deactivated over time. The spectroscopic data showed that the most likely catalytic active state was Mo4+ in the production of propene. The deactivation of the catalyst was determined to be the result of coke formation and the irreversible formation of MoO3 crystals, which were difficult to reduce back to Mo4+. The dehydrogenation of propane can also be achieved with chromium catalysts, through the reduction of Cr6+ to Cr3+. Propylene is one of the most important organic starting materials is used globally, particularly in the synthesis of various plastics. Therefore, the development of effective catalysts to produce propylene is of great interest. Operando spectroscopy is of great value to the further research and development of such catalysts.
Granola bars are made of granola, muesli or cereal, typically including oat flakes, vegetable fats or oils, and some type of sweetener. Many granola bars contain additional ingredients such as nuts, dried fruits, and seeds. They become popular in the 1960s as part of the counterculture Hippie movement.
It is a fact that the People's Republic of China is the source for the vast majority of synthetic opioids that are flooding the streets of the United States and Western democracies. It is a fact that these synthetic opioids are responsible for the overwhelming increase in overdose deaths in the United States. It is a fact that if the People's Republic of China wanted to shut down the synthetic opioids industry, they could do so in a day.
=== Protein === MIA3 is a member of the MIA/OTOR family. The full-length protein spans 1,907 amino acids and localizes to the ER exit sites. It contains an N-terminal, SH3-like domain, two predicted transmembrane domains, a coiled-coiled domain, and a C-terminal, proline-rich domain. The SH3-like domain faces the ER lumen, where it can bind cargo for COPII carrier biogenesis, while the proline-rich domain faces the cytoplasm, where it can bind the COPII components Sec23/24. Of the two predicted transmembrane domains, only one actually crosses the membrane, whereas the second likely forms a hairpin structure that is only embedded in but not crossing the membrane.

== Cause == Yaws is caused by infection with bacteria of the Treponema pallidum subspecies pertenue. The initial yaws wound contains infectious bacteria, which are passed onto others through skin-to-skin contact, typically during play or other normal childhood interactions. Early (primary and secondary) yaws lesions have a higher bacterial load, thus are more infectious. Both papillomas and ulcers are infectious. Infectivity is thought to last 12–18 months after infection, longer if a relapse occurs. Early yaws lesions are often itchy, and more lesions may form along lines that are scratched. Yaws may be evolving into less conspicuous lesions. After a new person is infected, an infectious papilloma will form within 9–90 days (on average 21 days). T. pallidum pertenue has been identified in nonhuman primates (baboons, chimpanzees, and gorillas) and experimental inoculation of human beings with a simian isolate causes yaws-like disease. However, no evidence exists of cross-transmission between human beings and other primates, but more research is needed to discount the possibility of a yaws animal reservoir in nonhuman primates.
Hence (its way) is near to (that of) the Tao" and "There is nothing in the world more soft and weak than water, and yet for attacking things that are firm and strong there is nothing that can take precedence of it—for there is nothing (so effectual) for which it can be changed." Guanzi in the "Shui di" 水地 chapter further elaborates on the symbolism of water, proclaiming that "man is water" and attributing natural qualities of the people of different Chinese regions to the character of local water resources.
Conversely, overexpression of the WldS protein (which contains functional NMNAT1), axon-targeted NMNAT1, or NMNAT2 itself can protect axons and keep SARM1 from being activated. These findings lead to the hypothesis and subsequent demonstration that NMNAT2's substrate NMN, which should increase when NMNAT2 is degraded after injury, can promote axon degeneration via SARM1. Further studies revealed that NMN could activate SARM1's enzymatic activity. Through a combination of structural, biochemical, biophysical, and cellular assays, it was revealed that SARM1 is tuned to NMNAT activity by sensing the ratio of NMN/NAD+. This ratio is sensed by an allosteric region in SARM1's ARM domain region that can bind either NMN or NAD+. NAD+ binding is associated with SARM1's auto-inhibited state, while NMN binding to the allosteric region results in a conformational change in the ARM domain that allows for multimerization of SARM1's TIR domains and enzymatic activation. SARM1 activation locally triggers a rapid collapse of NAD+ levels in the distal section of the injured axon, which then undergoes degeneration. This collapse in NAD+ levels was later shown to be due to SARM1's TIR domain having intrinsic NAD+ cleavage activity. SARM1 can hydrolyze NAD+ into nicotinamide and adenosine diphosphate ribose (ADPR), generate cyclic ADPR (cADPR), or mediate a base-exchange reaction with ADPR and free pyridine-ring containing bases, like nicotinamide. Activation of SARM1's NADase activity is necessary and sufficient to collapse NAD+ levels and initiate the Wallerian degeneration pathway.
transposase Any of a class of self-acting enzymes capable of binding to the flanking sequences of the transposable element which encodes them and catalyzing its movement to another part of the genome, typically by an excision/insertion mechanism or a replicative mechanism, in a process known as transposition.

Peasants fled once again to the lands of the Cossacks, in particular the Yaik Host, whose people were committed to the old Cossack traditions. The changing government also burdened the Cossacks, extending its reach to reform Cossack traditions. Among ordinary Cossacks, hatred of the elite and central government rose. In 1772, a six–month open rebellion ensued between the Yaik Cossacks and the central government.
There is uncertainty about reinfection and long-term immunity. It is not known how common reinfection is, but reports have indicated that it is occurring with variable severity. The first reported case of reinfection was a 33-year-old man from Hong Kong who first tested positive on 26 March 2020, was discharged on 15 April 2020 after two negative tests, and tested positive again on 15 August 2020 (142 days later), which was confirmed by whole-genome sequencing showing that the viral genomes between the episodes belong to different clades. The findings had the implications that herd immunity may not eliminate the virus if reinfection is not an uncommon occurrence and that vaccines may not be able to provide lifelong protection against the virus. Another case study described a 25-year-old man from Nevada who tested positive for SARS‑CoV‑2 on 18 April 2020 and on 5 June 2020 (separated by two negative tests). Since genomic analyses showed significant genetic differences between the SARS‑CoV‑2 variant sampled on those two dates, the case study authors determined this was a reinfection. The man's second infection was symptomatically more severe than the first infection, but the mechanisms that could account for this are not known.
In the mobilization stage, the stepparent can begin to step forward to address the family's process and structure. The tasks of this stage are to confront differences in each member's perception of the new family, as well as to influence one another before shaming or blaming begins to take action to reorganize the family structure. The goal here is to make joint decisions about new stepfamily rituals, rules, and roles. The focus in this stage is on the stepfamily's unique "middle ground" (i.e. the "areas of shared experience, shared values, and easy cooperative functioning created over time"), and on balancing this new middle ground with honoring of past and other relationships. The later stages consist of the contact and resolution stages. In the contact stage, the couple is working well together, the boundaries between households are clear, and stepparents have definite roles with stepchildren as "intimate outsiders." The task for this stage is in solidifying the stepparent's role, and in continuing the process of awareness. Finally, in the resolution stage, the stepfamily's identity has become secure. The family accepts itself for who it is, there is a strong sense of the stepfamily's middle ground, and children feel secure in both households. The task for this stage is to nourish the depth and maturity gained through this process, and to rework any issues that might arise at family "nodal events" (e.g., weddings, funerals, graduations, etc.).
A massive "tomato tree" in the Walt Disney World Resort's experimental greenhouses in Lake Buena Vista, Florida may have been the largest single tomato plant. It yielded a harvest of more than 32,000 tomatoes, together weighing 522 kg (1,151 lb). The town of Buñol, Spain, annually celebrates La Tomatina, a festival centered on an enormous tomato fight. On 30 August 2007, as many as 40,000 Spaniards gathered to throw 115,000 kg (254,000 lb) of tomatoes at each other in the festival. Some US states have adopted the tomato as a state fruit or vegetable. Arkansas took both sides by declaring the South Arkansas Vine Ripe Pink Tomato both the state fruit and the state vegetable in the same law, citing both its culinary and botanical classifications. In 2009, the state of Ohio passed a law making the tomato the state's official fruit, while tomato juice has been the state's official beverage since 1965. Livingston's plant breeding is commemorated in his home town of Reynoldsburg with an annual Tomato Festival; it calls itself "The Birthplace of the Tomato". In Finland, the Tomatkarnevalen is held annually in the town of Närpes. Tomatoes are sometimes thrown in public protests. Embracing it for this connotation, the Dutch Socialist party adopted the tomato as their logo. The same meaning is evoked in the name of the American review-aggregation website for film and television, "Rotten Tomatoes", though its founder mentions a scene in the 1992 movie Leolo as the immediate source of the name.

GHK denotes the unbound chain of three amino acids. GHK-Cu describes the form in which a copper(II) ion is held by that chain. The two are not interchangeable in solution, since charge, molecular weight, and reactivity differ.
The chain occurs in human plasma, saliva, and urine. Measured amounts are reported to fall with age. Copper binding by the sequence is treated as part of normal metal handling in tissue.
The bound copper(II) centre contributes to redox behaviour and to stability under physiological conditions. Free copper ions can participate in reactions that generate reactive species, while chelated metal is generally more controlled. The chain may also serve as a carrier for copper in experimental systems.
Peptide content is usually measured by reverse-phase high-performance liquid chromatography, while copper is measured by atomic spectroscopy. Mass spectrometry can confirm the peptide identity and detect copper adducts. Combining these methods gives a more complete picture.
